wigan council report it

How long does it take the council to do repairs/maintenance after you report something online.
In June of last year I reported the zebra crossing on Golborne road was sinking in the middle told no defect in carriageway.
I reported it again on the 12 Oct and it was repaired on the 1st Nov but got reported again on the21st Nov because the tarmac repair had started to break up. Work still in progress to repair the tarmac.
I not for the 1st time reported a storm gulley pot blocked at the end of Barrow Street causing the street to flood across its full width. This was reported on17th Nov and the pot is still blocked and the road flooded but work is in progress Is it lip service just to passify who ever reports something because it seems to take an age for the council to do any road repairs

Peter to the front of my house on Poolstock Lane was a creator that you could trip up and fall in, I reported it , last year 2023, April and got an email acknowledging the email and saying an engineer would come to see it, I then got a report some weeks later saying, Its nothing to worry about, its just a ' pot hole' and will be seen to in line with many other pot holes in priority, So this year 2014 it was attended to and the road resurfaced , bare in mind, Poolstock Lane is a major artery into and out of Wigan, You might have a longer wait , I think Sledge pulled a few strings on my pot hole because, he banged his head on the car roof every time he comes peeping at what I'm doing

It sometimes helps to notify your local councillor of the problem as well as they can make enquiries on your behalf.
I find the council's A-Z a waste of time as there are too many categories missing, all it needs is a box for "other" problems.

Mortarmillbill I did get our councillor involved because I 1st reported the zebra crossing because I saw a gentleman stumble on the crossing and took photos which clearly was showing that what was a central reservation which was removed to create the zebra crossing had sunk by about a inch on both sides. If the defect had been on any other part of the highway I could have then dismissed it. But because it is a well used crossing facing a park and also used by a lot of younger schoolchildren and mothers with prams it was a health and safety issue but some one so called inspected it and said there was no defect on the highway(i don't no what the councils class as a road defect)The council got round to putting a layer of tarmac over the area on the 1st Nov and by the 21st Nov most of this tarmac had lifted and it now is a bigger mess than before. It wants digging down and rebuilding up with concrete then tar-macing but the council site posts work in progressThe crossing requires closing down until it is repaired and a school crossing patrol putting in place.

As regards response time to highway repairs ; All observed defects that provide a potential risk to users are recorded and the level of response determined on the basis of an onsite assessment
Category 1 - (those that require prompt attention because they represent an immediate hazard) - repaired in 2 to 24 hours
Category 2 - (all other defects) - repaired within 14-28 days

Wigvet that plan is blown out of the water because I 1st reported the defect in June and it was only because I reported it again in Oct did the council get round to doing a shoddy job on the 1st of Nov then reported again on the 21st Nov because most of the repair has disappeared.
The section of Barrow Street from Bolton Road to North Street was relaid about 5Years ago and new storm drains/pot were installed. All of the pots flooded and when cleaned out they were full of stone chippings. The pot which is now causing the flooding problem when installed is higher than the gully for starters This pot has been so called cleaned out at least 6 times since it was installed.I reported the problem in Nov and as far as I know the gully sucker/pressure jet has not been sent out to try to unblock the offending pot.Road still flooding all the way across when it rain .It requires a camera down the pot to find the blockage and then rectify the problem. This problem should have been sorted within days of there being a problem which is still with us years after the 1st eventThere was no problem with drainage until they replaced all of the drains/pots

Like you say the problem is that when they removed that central reservation, which they call a traffic island, it has not been removed properly, and with it being a busy main road, with all sorts of traffic using it from HGV's and several buses an hour, any flaw in the road foundation will soon become apparent as the road sinks.

We had a sink hole appear in the road in front of ours in November. It got critically worse on the Friday teatime, so much so I put my car in front of it to make traffic go around it. The workmen came out a hour after we reported it and put cones round it. They came back at 23:30 and put a proper cordon around it, at which point I put the car back in the garage. They came back 08:00 Saturday Morning to have a proper look and arranged a Monday repair. This they did and the road was back in use by 12:00 Tuesday after the tarmac was filled in. They did a good job, it could have been nasty for someone on a motorbike/bicycle.
